Arthritis WA has designed and trialled a self-management program specifically for people with osteoarthritis of the knee (OAK). This program has been running for a number of years with excellent results and is now available as a service program.Bodyfit NT is the accredited facilitator of the OAK program in the Northern Territory and will be running a number of courses in 2009.
What Does the Program Involve?
The program consists of 6 x 2.5 hour education sessions over 6 weeks. See Flyer for more details of Course 1. We will cover a lot of information each week that is not repeated. It is in your best interest to attend all 6 sessions of the program.
Participants who wish to be involved in the program need to be 18 years or older, speak and understand English and have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in one or both knees by a medical practitioner.
The 'Osteoarthritis of the Knee' Program:
- 6 group education sessions (one session per week).
- Each session will run for 2.5 hours.
- These sessions cover the following areas; information about osteoarthritis, how to exercise correctly, pain management strategies, information about medications and their side effects, healthy eating for arthritis, coping with negative emotions such as depression and fatigue, relaxation techniques, and much, much more!
- A program reference book is supplied on loan for the duration of the program and can be purchased at the end for Please do not write in this book unless you wish to purchase it.
Withdrawal from the Program
If you decide to withdraw from the program, please contact the program coordinator on so that another person with osteoarthritis may benefit from the program.
